PE and Sport
PE and Sport at Myton Park Primary School
Sports Mission Statement
The vision of PE within Myton Park Primary School is to engage all children in a broad and balanced curriculum which builds confidence and promotes self-belief. It will give children a sense of achievement and the opportunity to take part in a variety of physical activities which allows the development of fundamental life skills.
At Myton Park we aim to provide a broad and balanced PE curriculum and aid children’s increasing self-confidence in their ability to manage themselves and their bodies within a variety of movement situations.
We aim to develop the children’s knowledge, skills and understanding, so they can perform with increasing competence and confidence in a range of physical activities, including those of a competitive nature.
Through a balance of individual, paired and group activities we aim to cater for the different strengths, needs and preferences of each child, using differentiated activities where appropriate.
We strive towards six core principles for PE and sport: passion, self-belief, respect, determination, honesty and team-work . These values are applied by school to developing a range of behaviours, qualities and inter-personal skills with students based on sporting experiences, scenarios and attitudes.
All children are encouraged to join clubs and extend their interest and involvement in sports. We encourage children to develop their creative and expressive abilities through improvisation and problem-solving. Children are taught to appreciate the importance of a healthy and fit body and begin to understand those factors which affect health and fitness. This work is closely aligned with our policy on Personal, Social, Health and Citizen Education (PSHCE). Our constant gardener scheme promotes healthy eating. An annual health and fitness week is timetabled throughout the school.
Sports Premium 2015- 2016
The Sports Premium money is used towards our costs of employing a P.E. apprentice, Mr Busby, to teach a variety of sports and P.E. activities across the school.
Mr Busby is linked to the Falcons Rugby club. He uses his skills to support quality teaching of PE through school, to work with Mrs Westcough to run the Sports Crew and to run the Football team with Mr Harvey. Mr Busby uses his expertise to support staff in delivering effective PE lessons throughout school.
We also employ dansfusion as specialists in teaching dance. They teach alongside class teachers to help to develop their skills and knowledge as high quality CPD.
In addition we have also bought into the Gold Package from our local School Sports Partnership, this agreement:
Allows staff to attend CPD.
Provides specialist training for the P.E. coordinator.
Provides free coaching for pupils (E.g. Our new Sports Crew were trained to be playground leaders, Y6 had access to cricket coaching, etc.).
Gives opportunities for children to take part in inter-school/inter-county competitions.
Enables all staff to access accredited PE and Sports curriculum plans.
We also use the money to help fund talking the children to a wide variety of sporting activities and competitions.
This work has helped us to secure the Sainsburys Gold Award for 2015-2016.
