Hello Year 5
We hope that you have had a lovely weekend.
As we are now in Week 2 of Home Learning, we just wanted to recap a few of the tasks we would like you to complete:
Schofield and Sims – Section 3 Test 2
Watch and complete the tasks for the daily Home Lesson with Gareth Matcalfe http://www.iseemaths.com/home-lessons/ These lessons are focusing on problem solving in lots of different contexts.
Complete your daily task on My Maths. I am uploading a new task each day and giving you feedback once you have completed it. Well done to those people who completed every task last week – you are superstars!
Please ensure that you complete your weekly tasks on Reading Plus – you need to read five stories and complete your vocab task from Monday to Friday.
Please continue to complete the spelling, grammar and English written tasks from your Home Learning packs.
If you have any queries, or if you would like more guidance or work, please do email me MPSHarrison@sbcschools.org.uk
Sending you all lots of love and smiles,
Miss Harrison and Mrs Jones
Hello Year 5!
Mrs Jones and I hope that you are enjoying some of the lovely sunshine we are having at the moment.
Please don’t forget, I am setting you a new maths task on My Maths each day. I will leave the task open for a one week, but after that it will be taken off as I am setting one task each day for you to complete. Well done to those of you who are keeping up with this and completing one task every day – this really will prepare you for our Maths lessons when we get back to school.
Keep watching and participating in the Gareth Metcalfe home lessons too – I have been completing these lessons with the key worker children in school and we have really enjoyed them so far. 🙂
Best wishes from Miss Harrison and Mrs Jones.
Who would like to do PE everyday? I can hear cries of ‘yes’ coming from everyone in Year 5! 🙂
Joe Wicks, The Body Coach, is doing a ‘PE with Joe’ session everyday on his YouTube channel. The lessons are live, every week day morning, from 9am, however, you could complete the lesson at any time of the day that suits you and your family.
So, why not start your day with PE and keep your fitness levels up? Enjoy!
Miss Harrison and Mrs Jones
Dear Year 5,
I have now uploaded all of your daily maths activities on MyMaths. When you log in each day, there will be a new task for you to complete. Please complete all working out in your home learning book.
For those of you who did not complete your fractions homework last week, I have reset this, so that you can complete it this week. Well done to everyone who did complete it – you did so well! 🙂
I will give feedback on every completed piece of work and point you in the right direction if you struggled on a particular piece of work.
As a Key Stage, we have decided to ask all children to participate in the ‘Daily Maths Lessons’ offered by Gareth Metcalfe. Gareth is a very experienced primary Maths specialist teacher and consultant, who has worked alongside our school to develop maths teaching in school.
Gareth is offering online lessons everyday and today’s lesson is already uploaded. We would like children to watch these videos, pause when they need to work out questions and put all of their working out in their home learning books. It would be hugely beneficial to the children if you could sit with them while they complete the maths lesson. We appreciate that you will all be extremely busy at the moment, but these lessons really do offer the second best alternative to being in school and learning with teachers.

Just a little message from the wonderful staff at Preston Park Museum. The whole of KS2 has designed and created their own egg to go on view over the easter holidays. Please follow the link to the museum website and enjoy all of the children’s hard work last week.
All the staff and volunteers at Preston Park Museum send our thanks to you for taking part in the ‘Eggshibition’ 2020. Special thanks go to your staff for enabling your groups and school children to take part in producing this fantastic piece of community artwork.
As you are aware, many public institutions and organisations are closing this week until further notice and unfortunately the Museum has had to make the same decision.
Thankfully we managed to finish installing the ‘Eggshibition’ and some lucky members of the public got to see it in person on Tuesday and Wednesday!
We have taken lots of photographs and posted them on our facebook page so feel free to share any of these images on your own social media platforms, to share a bit of colour and joy.
Well done KS2 🙂
I have given out home learning packs to the children who have been in school today. If your child has not been in school, their home learning pack is in school and can be collected by an adult from the office tomorrow, or Monday and Tuesday of next week. If you are unable to collect this, please email me (MPSHarrison@sbcschools.org.uk) and I will drop this off for your child.
Sending you all our very best wishes, Miss Harrison and Mrs Jones.
We have completed our final reading assessment in school today. If your child has not been in school today, please can they log onto Reading Plus at home and complete the assessment. This will appear on their screen as soon as they log in.
Site Code: rpmyton1
I appreciate your completion of this task. You will not be able to complete your Home Learning Tasks on Reading Plus unless you complete this assessment first.
Many thanks, Miss Harrison
Dear Year 5,
If you took your homework book home today, please could you bring it back into school tomorrow as we need to stick your Maths homework in.
Thank you! 🙂
