Geography

Curriculum Intent – Geography

At Myton our Geography curriculum is designed to develop children’s curiosity and fascination about the world and its people; to promote the children’s interest and understanding of diverse places and people; to develop thematic links across learning; to allow for a breadth of knowledge across a range or natural and human environments; to foster a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes.

The curriculum is designed to develop knowledge and skills that are progressive and transferable, throughout their time at Myton Park Primary and beyond. Children are encouraged to develop a greater understanding and knowledge of the world and the role they play within their community on a local, national and global scale. We want children to enjoy and love learning about geography by gaining this knowledge and skills, not just through experiences in the classroom, but also with the use of fieldwork and educational visits.

They will develop their abilities to :

  • think independently to discuss and debate wider world issues
  • raise questions about the wider world and the impact they can have within it
  • innovate in the application of skills
  • undertake practical work in a variety of contexts
  • share their passion for science and its application in technologies.

The curriculum focuses on retaining knowledge, gaining an understanding of key concepts over time and re-visiting the same knowledge through a series of carefully planned activities. It is our ambition to inspire our children through studying the best of what has been thought and said in order to achieve.

Together we, Nurture, Inspire and Achieve.
